Kyudo, which literally means The Way of the Bow, is considered by many to be the purest of all the martial ways.

The essence of modern kyudo is said to be synonymous with the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.

This are the 8 stages of shooting:

  1. Ashibumi (足踏み), placing the footing.
  2. Dōzukuri (胴造り), forming the body.
  3. Yugamae (弓構え), readying the bow.
  4. Uchiokoshi (打起し), raising the bow.
  5. Hikiwake (引分け), drawing apart.
  6. Kai (会), the full draw.
  7. Hanare (離れ), the release.
  8. Zanshin (残心), the remaining body or mind.

I see the first 6 stages as metaphor for strategy.
It’s all about energy and direction.
Every stage is an essential part of the road that leads to action and success.
That is step 7.
Hanare.
